Cloned from the notorious fake anti-spyware programs Personal Antivirus, Cyber Security and Alpha Antivirus, Personal Security acts like its relatives to try and trick users into buying a license to the software. This rogue software reaches a user’s computer through Trojans that reside on fake websites and get downloaded through fake audio/video codec installations. Once established on a user’s system, it proceeds to block system services such as System Restore, Registry Editor, Task Manager and Safe Mode in an attempt to ensure that it does not get deleted. It then loads itself at startup and displays a myriad of fake pop-ups from the taskbar, performing fake system scans and coming up with numerous threat warnings. Personal Security also flags completely harmless legitimate files as viruses. It claims that the ‘trial’ version of Personal Security which is currently installed is incapable of cleaning these threats and urges the user to purchase a license to the ‘full’ version of the software. However, the ‘full’ version of Personal Security is no more capable of cleaning your system than the ‘trial’ version; therefore under no circumstances should you allow yourself to be tricked into buying a license for this rogue piece of software.

In order to delete Personal security, you must stop its running processes, unregister its DLLs, remove files and folders and delete registry entries.

File Removal Procedures

The first step to delete Personal Security is to kill the following process:

psecurity.exe

Then it is necessary to unregister the following DLL file:

win32extension.dll

The final step in file removal is to delete the following files and folders which are related to Personal Security:

%Program Files%\PSecurity

%Program Files%\PSecurity\psecurity.exe

%Program Files%\Common Files\PSecurityUninstall

%Program Files%\Common Files\PSecurityUninstall\Uninstall.lnk

%WINDOWS%\system32\win32extension.dll

%Documents and Settings%\All Users\Start Menu\PSecurity

%Documents and Settings%\All Users\Start Menu\PSecurity\Computer Scan.lnk

%Documents and Settings%\All Users\Start Menu\PSecurity\Help.lnk

%Documents and Settings%\All Users\Start Menu\PSecurity\Personal Security.lnk

%Documents and Settings%\All Users\Start Menu\PSecurity\Registration.lnk

%Documents and Settings%\All Users\Start Menu\PSecurity\Security Center.lnk

%Documents and Settings%\All Users\Start Menu\PSecurity\Settings.lnk

%Documents and Settings%\All Users\Start Menu\PSecurity\Update.lnk

%UserProfile%\Application Data\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch\PSecurity.lnk

%UserProfile%\Desktop\Personal Security.lnk

Once these steps have been completed, your hard disk is safe from Personal Security.
Registry Removal Procedures

To completely delete Personal Security, it is necessary to remove the following keys and settings from the registry:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{35A5B43B-CB8A-49CA-A9F4-D3B308D2E3CC}

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\5FFB10D58FFCF482208906E6A889FD56

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run “PSecurity”

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\5.0\User Agent\post platform “WinTSI 01.12.2009?

Now it is possible to say that your computer is completely safe from Personal Security.

Conclusion

Only seasoned system administrators and experienced computer system users should attempt to manually delete Personal Security, as any mistake made during deletion could cause damage to your computer. Inexperienced users are advised to use a web-based virus scanning/cleaning service such as www.onlinecomputerrepair.org or legitimate antivirus software such as Spyware Doctor with Antivirus that will clean your computer and completely delete Personal Security from your system.
